Inigo Jones Slateworks

Inigo Jones Slate Works was founded in 1861 primarily to produce school writing slates. Today the company produces architectural memorial craft products and garden products from natural welsh slate. The company specialises in producing engraved slate nameplates and plaques which are all made to order. By popular demand Inigo Jones now offers a self guided tour of the Works which gives an insight into the prefabrication process. Inigo Jones is now also a major tourist attraction that is open daily all year including weekends. The tour of the Works was introduced in the early 1980's by popular demand. It is a self guided tour and is both educational and fun. There is an introductory video presentation, after which you can wander through the work shops at your own pace and view the machines and craftsmen in action, accompanied by your own personal taped commentary. There are also Geological, Historical, Calligraphy and Letter Cutting Exhibitions. Try your hand at calligraphy and engrave on a piece of slate that you get to keep. Children can also compete in our quiz to win a slate prize. The new showroom has a wide variety of the company's slate craft products as well as other craft products of a Celtic and Welsh theme. Our Welsh Rock Cafe , featuring the history of Welsh music right up to the present is an ideal venue to relax with a drink and a bite after what we are sure will be an enjoyable and fulfilling visit. Opening Hours Workshops, Showroom and Cafe open daily including weekends from 9am to 5pm except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
